Opening to Divine Possibilities Unlocking the Power of the Subconscious Mind through Waking Dreams
Many of us in these times find ourselves backed up between the proverbial ‘rock and a hard place’. We have situations that we are being faced with that do not have any foreseeable solution. I have found myself holding these thoughts of late and it has been through my dreams that the doors have begun to open. I share with you this process today, for it is one that I have been able to replicate again and again, and I have found it to be an invaluable process in my own journey.
Often when we face a new situation that we have never been in before that seems like an insurmountable obstacle that lies ahead of us, this is when our subconscious fears and blocks are activated the most. We get sacred and tell ourselves all the ways things are not going to happen, we unconsciously find ourselves thinking about failing. This is often not a place that we consciously choose to go with our thoughts. Instead, our subconscious has ingrained patterns that it follows, and if we have never encountered and risen above this obstacle in our lifetimes, we find it hard to wrap our heads around how we can do it now. On an even deeper level, we have conditioned our brains our entire lives to thinking a certain way, so when we have a new situation present it self it takes a whole new process within our brains in order to look at our live with stark honesty and assess what we need to do from a new perspective. This can be a challenge to do on our own. This is why people seek out therapists, friends and family members with their problems, we intrinsically are searching for that new perspective, however, it has to be something that is not too far away from our established ways of being for us to feel comfortable. It takes courage and fearlessness to be able to be confronted with an entirely new way of thinking about a situation and then to challenge ourselves to move in that new direction with our lives. This is the exact courage and fearlessness that the waking dream evokes. This is why this process is so powerful.
Yes, a waking dream can evoke feelings of courage and fearlessness, however, the dream can not bring these qualities into your conscious life and make you act upon them. Nothing is ever that easy, the dream is just a tool to evoke these feelings; you then have to do the work afterwards to follow the path of the dream in your everyday reality. Let me walk you through the process:
How to Have a Waking Dream A variety of hypnosis and meditation practices can walk you into waking dreams. A waking dream is when your body is awake, but you are in an altered state of consciousness. Your brain waves have slowed down; your body and mind are in a relaxed state of consciousness and therefore you have an increased access to your subconscious mind. However, you do not need to be hypnotized to achieve these states. You can, with practice, walk yourself into these states. Here are a few simple steps to help you begin on your journey of awakening the power of your subconscious mind through the waking dream:
-You want to begin at a time in your day when you have the ability to be the most relaxed, for most people this is upon waking or falling asleep.
-You then want to set an intention for your waking dream. What problem do you need help solving? What issue are you facing in your life right now that does not seem to have an answer? Pose this question in your mind.
-Allow your mind to relax and wander, imagine all the different ways that you are overcoming this problem, do not allow your mind to think about ways in which you cannot solve your problem or work through your issue. Instead only imagine possibilities of resolution. No matter how far out these ideas are, allow them to come to you, this is not a time to judge yourself or your ideas, instead, let all judgments go and just open your mind up to imagining this issue or problem working out perfectly, in your best and highest interest.
- Then, play this scene out in your mind, what would it look like if you could solve your problem or overcome the obstacle that you face in this way, how would you feel? Remember, you are imagining all the ways it could happen.
- When you have finished this visioning process, take out a journal and record your musings. This is a practice that will take time and practice to implement. You will need several of these waking dream experiences to decide with your conscious mind on the best course of action to take. You will want to review all the possibilities, and then MAKE A DECISION TO ACT ON ONE in your life. This process is no where near as valuable unless you take this step.
This powerful practice of visioning your success and then challenging yourself to take the steps to make your dreams a reality is not a new practice. Our subconscious minds hold a storehouse of information that is available for us to access. However, most of us have been trained to approach our problems through our conscious minds. We weigh out the pros and cons and make decisions that build on decisions that we have made with our conscious minds in the past. This is the slowest possible route to growth. We are not accessing our full potential when we only tap into only our conscious minds. Our subconscious minds are our connection to the deepest parts of our psyche and our connection to spirit. When we can allow ourselves to open up to this powerful force in our lives, we begin to live from a place of more possibilities. We not only are more able to break out of patterns that have existed, but can pave the way to our new selves. At a time when so may of us are moving into another stage in our lives, a stage in which we know we deserve to live richer, more fulfilling, more inspired lives every day, these practices can be invaluable. For no matter how many times are told that we can create the life we want to live, we are often left to the day to day management of the little things on our own. This waking dream practice is just one way to move closer to the truth of who you know you are in your life.
