Love Where You Live: Practical Feng Shui Tips
Love Where You Live

Do you love where you live?  Creating a space you love, and which nourishes your goals, activities, lifestyle, and desires is a profound act of self-love. Below are four practical steps to opening your "feng shui eyes" in order to make changes in your home which benefit all areas of your life.

1.  Make a list of all the positive changes you'd like to experience in your life.

When you have written it all down, take a look around your living space.  Does your living space support the things you want to manifest?  For example, maybe you want to experience some major shifts in your personal relationships and career, but you have packed your walls and surfaces with framed pictures of old relationships and your old career.  Letting go of some of these or storing them will not only be a powerful message to your subconscious that will help move you into a new headspace, it will also create the space in your house for pictures of your new, future experiences.  Perhaps you want to have dinner parties more often, but the dinner table is covered in junk mail and old magazines.  Or maybe you'd like to watch less TV and exercise more.  Is your TV uncovered and prominent in a room you spend a lot of time in?  Find a way to cover it when it's not in use, even if it's with an attractive cloth.   If you want to bring in more money, does your environment make you feel prosperous?  Maybe you can bring in some images that give you the feeling of abundance.

Continue this walk through, making changes in your environment that support the changes you'd like to see in your life.  This will definitely involve letting go of anything that doesn't support you; in other words, anything you don't love or need.  Allow yourself as much time as you need with this.

2.   Describe your ideal environment

In as much detail as possible, write out a description of your ideal environment.  You might like to get a stack of home decorating magazines and leaf through them, cutting out images that appeal to you.  Then you can make a collage of your ideal home.  Don't set limits on yourself.  Really go crazy.  Maybe it's not practical to live in Big Sur, but it's the most beautiful place you've ever been.  Put that in the
description.  Maybe you've always secretly fantasized about living in a cave.  Put that in the description. This doesn't mean you have to go out and find a real estate agent who deals in caves, it's just information for creating your ideal environment.

When you've gotten very clear on your ideal environment, make changes to your present environment that bring in aspects of your ideal environment.   If you love Big Sur, but can't live there, bring in some
beautiful artifacts that remind you of Big Sur, or a framed piece of art depicting Big Sur.  If you have always been attracted to caves, maybe you need some darker or heavier curtains, so you have the option of shutting out daylight whenever you want to.   This might be a great time to splurge on little things that make you feel luxurious, like nicer sheets or dishtowels.   Also, fix or release everything that is in need of repair.  Oil squeaky hinges, fix leaky faucets, and replace burned-out light bulbs.  This is a wonderful way to nurture yourself, inspire yourself, and awaken your ability to perceive the beauty that surrounds you.

3.  Allow your environment to change with you.

We feel most alive when our environments are also alive. No matter how much you love your décor, after a certain amount of time, you will stop being able to appreciate it.  You will have absorbed every last drop of newness and inspiration from it.  Be alert to this, and when it happens, refresh your environment so that it feels exciting, and so that its unique beauty is alive to you.  Also, as we reach old goals and formulate new ones, we benefit when our environments
support us in these changes.  This doesn't mean you have to change everything at once.  Just take a good look at everything and decide what changes would make your heart sing.  Then make them.  In this way, we draw inspiration and motivation from our environments, and stimulate our passion and joy.

4.  Enjoy the process.

Everything is connected.  Making changes in your home is a fun way to honor and celebrate your beautiful life path.  In feng shui, we recommend a curving and
meandering path!  Not a straight one.  Take your time and enjoy!
